AC Phase 7

Introduction

This project will restore 13.8 acres along Alvarado Creek (see image below) from San Diego State University properties (Phases 1-3, 5, and 7), Smoke Tree Homeowners Association property (HOA), and CalTrans property (Phase 7). This is the continuation of the restoration of Alvarado Creek funded under several agreements between the San Diego River Conservancy (SDRC) and the San Diego State University Research Foundation’s Soil Ecology and Restoration Group. This work is funded under the SDRC’s Directed Grant Program.

Project Objectives

  1. Protect resources
  2. Reduce flood and fire risk
  3. Improve water quality
  4. Protect and enhance wildlife habitat
  5. Remove invasive plant species from the watershed
  6. Increase native habitat and promote re-establishment of native species
  7. Protect the natural and scenic beauty of the San Diego River watershed

Project Summary

  • Some non-native biomass has been treated and removed
  • Baseline vegetation monitoring has been completed
  • Objectives are actively being worked on
